This online marketplace has altered its size classifications for women's and children's garments but did not contact all users about the change. Digital Channels Backlash Countless users and merchants are posting online stating that platform listings now display a modified sizing category compared to what was initially listed due to the recalibration. Vinted explained the new system was more in line with other platforms. They have suggested members to examine their items and manually change the size if necessary, causing user dissatisfaction. Sizing System Updates Previously, the measurements included a single numeric size and a letter, such as S/8 or M/10. The updated approach includes a letter with a size spectrum such as S/UK 8-10. In some cases, the sizing has been recategorised - for example a size L used to be a 12 but is now a UK 16-18. User Stories A fashion influencer, who makes TikTok content about plus-size fashion, stated the update "complicates both purchasing and selling". "Few clothing companies classify XL as 20-22," as the platform currently indicates. Another user, from Glasgow, said garments she listed featuring size 14 markings were appearing on the platform as larger sizing 20-22. "If buyers measuring 20-22 acquire them they may become frustrated," she said. Necessary Adjustments A different user, based in Derby, said she had been left angered by the change as she had to manually change the measurements for "each individual item". "This situation is especially annoying, because of my ongoing medical condition and selling on Vinted has been paramount following partial earnings loss," she said. Service Background The app has more than 100 million members, including 18 million in the UK. It has proved a popular alternative to second-hand platforms like eBay and Depop. This represents another occasion when a surprising modification to the app has proved unpopular: last year, the platform withdrew an update regarding delivery choices due to shopper criticism.
